WITS Talks: Supporting Children During Difficult Times

WITSEvents, Parents

For our final WITS Talk of the 2019-2020 school year, we are excited to welcome back one of our long-time presenters, Michele Lansing, MA, MS Ed., LCSW. Michele is a therapist, consultant, and Director of Clinical Operations for Juvenile Protective Association.

In this video-based WITS Talk, Michele reads The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld. The book follows Taylor after they experience a sad event and are offered a lot of advice from different animals. At the end of the book, we get to see what happens when the rabbit comes along and listens to Taylor. Following the read-aloud, Michele provides four tips to help support children during difficult times.

  1. Ask how the child is feeling.
  2. Let them know whatever they are feeling is okay.
  3. Sit with them in their feelings, and let them know they are not alone.
  4. Help them put words to their feelings.
