Community and Consistency, Now More than Ever

Hello WITS Community,

As you may know, students have been experiencing a lot of change since winter break. The surge in COVID-19 cases in Chicago has led to disruptions in learning in nearly all Chicago Public Schools. Disruptions like staffing shortages and school or class-wide quarantines will likely continue through the month or until the current COVID-19 surge peaks. With the help of our community, WITS will continue to offer programming and support to our schools in the face of these challenges.

WITS programming keeps students connected to reading, and each other, even in a virtual setting. Students benefit from mentors listening to and validating their feelings, reading and discussing books, and bringing joy and enthusiasm to every WITS session. We are all experiencing confusion and uncertainty as we navigate the safety and health of everyone in the ongoing pandemic. As a WITS mentor you understand the importance of showing up for students despite these uncertainties. Your consistency and investment of time to our community is more important than ever.

Thank you for your commitment to WITS and our students. We couldn’t do this work without you.
