ROCHELLE LEE TEACHER AWARD (RLTA)
Every summer, Chicago Public Schools teachers come together to improve
their literacy instructional practices at Rochelle Lee Teacher Award Summer
Institute. Awardees receive access to over 200 hours of teacher-led
professional development, and are given the opportunity to tailor their
experience to gain the resources and techniques that are most applicable to
the needs of their classrooms and students.
During the early stages of switching from in-person to virtual programs, WITS
maintained the quality of Summer Institute workshops and the overall
learning experience for educators. WITS worked with teachers to facilitate
workshops and found innovative ways to present information in engaging
ways online.
This year WITS Summer Institute offered 35 professional development
workshops on topics ranging from SEL in the Literacy Classroom, to using
the Google Suite in Readers and Writers Workshop, to Building Emotional
Literacy Through Conscious Discipline. WITS is responsive to educators
aspiring to improve their practice, and we know the variety of workshops
appeals to teachers who are taking charge of their professional development.
We are proud to say that we were able to keep all planned workshops
through the ever changing uncertainties of a pandemic.
